Whitianga Town Centre
Urban design for a coastal town centre, shaping the public streets and open space that hold the place together. Art built into everyday civic structure rather than added on top.
Urban art + design consultancy
The studio
Art consultant for public structure. We work with local council and iwi to build art into functional public infrastructure, from shade structures and walkways to noise walls. One studio carries it from design and materials through structure and fabrication.
White Urban Design is the practice of Clynt White, an art and design consultant who builds art into public infrastructure. Working alongside local council and iwi, the studio turns everyday structures, shade canopies, walkways and noise walls, into work that carries meaning and lasts. One consultant manages the whole chain: design, materials, structure and fabrication.
Portfolio
Each project reflects the place it belongs to and the people who use it, built with local council and iwi.
01
Urban design for a coastal town centre, shaping the public streets and open space that hold the place together. Art built into everyday civic structure rather than added on top.
02
A walking and cycling route along the transport edge, treating the in-between corridor as public space in its own right. Structure, materials and artwork carried by one studio.
03
A public-realm walkway that connects people through the parts of the city they move through daily. Honest with materials and structure, legible for the community that uses it.
04
Noise walls treated as infrastructure landscape, where a functional barrier carries an abstract narrative the public can read. Design, materials and fabrication managed end to end.
Site-specific artwork concepts for public structures, developed alongside local council and iwi so the work belongs to its place.
Specifying materials and managing fabrication so the built work matches the drawn work.
Art as part of the functioning structure: shade canopies, walkways, noise walls. Not paint on a wall.
Ongoing art and design consulting to councils on public-realm projects.
We collaborate with clients and communities who share a commitment to lasting value and beauty. If you have a project you would like to discuss, give us a call, email, or drop by the studio.
